Well, when I originally saw
the Oak leaf motif and decided to reverse engineer it to the oak leaf
and acorn motif, my plans were for a sweater for Bill - who has a
thing for Oaks. But at the time I didn't have the money for a
sweater's worth of yarn, so I contented myself with making him a pair
of socks. Then our birthdays rolled around (they are about a week
apart, so we we make it a week long celebration) and my Mom - who had
admired the socks and listened to me babble on about how much I love
the pattern and had really wanted to make a sweater - gave me the
money to buy yarn!
<br />
<br />
I spent weeks reading through my Elizabeth Zimmermann book
collection and scribbling diagrams and calculations on post it notes,
and finally it was time to cast on.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/15039585739" title="oaksong i 1 by Abigail L., on Flickr"><img alt="oaksong i

<br />
<br />
I settled on a mash up of EZ's Saddle shoulder sweater and Saddle
shoulder hybrid with shirt yoke constructions from <a href="http://amzn.com/0942018001">Knitting Workshop</a>.
Using some slightly altered numbers for EZ's Percentage system from
<a href="http://amzn.com/0892725338">Jacqueline Fee's Sweater Workshop.</a><br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/15039789867" title="oaksong i 2 by Abigail L., on Flickr"><img alt="oaksong i
2" height="500" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3844/15039789867_c9e8c16673.jpg" width="375" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
the Oak panel is modified/reverse engineered from pictures of
several different sweaters featuring one similar, and an Oak leaf
motif (with no acorns) available at the <a href="http://www.knittingfool.com/StitchIndex/StitchDetail.aspx?StitchID=2022">The
Knitting Fool</a> The side cable patterns are from Barbara
Walker's Treasuries with only minor tweaks to help them fit.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/15039788797" title="oaksong i 3 by Abigail L., on Flickr"><img alt="oaksong i
3" height="375" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5566/15039788797_15835a6439.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Overall I stuck to the regular saddle shoulder pattern (every
round body eating, then sleeve eating, then a few more body eating,
before doing the saddles) but made the saddles a bit wider –
somewhere between the with of the normal saddle shoulder and the
width of shirt back variation – by doing fewer sleeve eating
decreases, and then just knit the back half of the saddles over the
back of the sweater to meet in the center like the shirt back
variation. <br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/15039784987" title="oaksong i 5 by Abigail L., on Flickr"><img alt="oaksong i
5" height="375" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3840/15039784987_70988e8ff5.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
I was originally going to do a full
width oak motif on each sleeve, but I decided to only do half, which
made fitting everything in a bit easier, but I still wanted it mostly
centered on the side of the arm, so what I ended up doing was
knitting the panel centered on the outside of the arm and doing the
increases so that they formed a sort of visible seam along the inside
of the arm, but then working the last two increases on only one side
of this ‘seam’ to push the motif towards the back. (I attached
the sleeves to the body with the center ‘seam’ well… centered)<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/15039770118" title="oaksong i 4 by Abigail L., on Flickr"><img alt="oaksong i
4" height="375" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3902/15039770118_c393a23367.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
This still left the motif a bit more centered over the top of the
shoulder than I wanted so I converted a handful of the single
body-eating decreases into double decreases to eat up the extra back
sleeve/saddle stitches - effectively shifting the ‘center’ of the
saddle towards the front. I still ended up with the back saddle one
stitch wider than the front, but I don’t think it’s terribly
noticeable or detrimental to the fit.<br />
I had so much fun knitting Bill's sweater that I started to really
want one of my own, and since Mom had given me more than enough yarn
money...<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/15039761918" title="oaksong ii 1 by Abigail L., on Flickr"><img alt="oaksong ii
1" height="500" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5566/15039761918_7a880f2735.jpg" width="375" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
I made a few minor tweaks: making the arms shorter and the upper
arms a bit bigger around, adding a few more stitches around the body
and more short rows across the back.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
I made a Ravelry pattern page <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/oaksong">here </a>for the sweater and you can
download the rough recipe I used and the charts from there. Just be
warned it's really rough and I don't know how well it will adapt to
other sizes. No matter what, you should really read Elizabeth
Zimmermann's Knitting Workshop sections on sweaters, especially the
saddle shoulder variations, or my instructions may not make very much
sense.<br />

already prepared bookmark fabric:
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/14670046812" title="that's no moon bookmark by Abigail L., on
Flickr"><img alt="that's
no moon bookmark" height="500" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3864/14670046812_c3b6a6103f.jpg" width="375" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Before you start stitching, be sure to cut your fabric with at
least 9 extra squares on each side for finishing.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/14670051292" title="bookmark 1 blanket stitch by Abigail L., on Flickr"><img alt="bookmark 1
blanket stitch" height="500" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3869/14670051292_7e5197e922.jpg" width="375" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Stitch your bookmark pattern, then fold the sides to the back
leaving 3-4 empty squares on either side of the stitching. Tack the
edges down - you can use a blanket stitch like I did, or a simple
running stitch, or any decorative stitch as long as it isn't too
bulky.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/14483923047" title="bookmark 2 fringe by Abigail L., on Flickr"><img alt="bookmark 2
fringe" height="500" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2938/14483923047_59af70e552.jpg" width="375" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Flip the bookmark over and carefully trim the corners. Then pull
out the horizontal threads to create a fringe. Be sure to leave at
least three empty squares between the fringe and the stitching.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/14670049842" title="bookmark 3 wash by Abigail L., on Flickr"><img alt="bookmark 3

<br />
<br />
Wash and Iron your bookmark. Remember to keep the bookmark face
down so that you do not crush the stitches.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Carefully glue a piece of felt over the back of the bookmark to
protect the back of your stitching.<br />
<br />
<br />
Enjoy your new bookmark!!<br />

Bayerische have been languishing while I worked on other things. But
I finally got my behind into gear and got working. Once I sat down
and worked on them exclusively the knitting sped past and it didn't
hurt that I was very eager to wear them. I love the pattern!

I had a lot of fun putting these together, I love the lacy twisted
stitch and cable flowers and the lovely Lacey vine ribbing on the
back give the leg lots of stretch.<br />

from the pattern page:<br />
<br />
<br />
Winter just seems to keep going. Everything is cold and covered in
snow, and all I really want to do is get outside and see some color!
These socks are all things I wish I could be seeing outside by
February: bright flowers and trailing vines and leaves of spring! The
front of the sock sports flowers highlighted by twist stitches and
cables, while a twining cable climbs up the side and an undulating
vine rib decorates the back.<br />

<br />
I designed these with Bill in mind. I Love the oak leaf motif, and
Really wanted to make a sweater with it, but didn't have the yarn for
one. The oak motif would not get out of my head, so I finally gave
in and started poking around a sock idea and this is what I came up
with.<br />

from the pattern page:<br />
<br />
<br />
This is an earthy toe-up sock, originally designed for my husband.
The central oak leaf and acorn panel is flanked by an engaging yet
simple twisted stitch braid, with a lace style ribbing on the back of
the leg reminiscent of rows of little acorns. The pattern invokes
feelings of hiking through an English forest.<br />

I knit the first half as written, but then the second half I just
made a big rectangle ti give the bow tie a bit more body, since the
ones I saw that knit both in the pattern looked a bit too thin/floppy
about the middle.<br />

Grandma was always complaining of being cold, so I decided to knit
her a shawl.
<br />
<br />
I knew I wanted it to be warm so I decided to go with fingering
weight over lace, and I had the perfect yarn already in my stash. It
took me a while to finally pick a pattern but I eventually settled on
Zilver.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
The knitting went pretty quickly, and while I was working on it TW
was fascinated, and asked several times for me to knit a green shawl
for him.<br />
<br />
<br />
I had a random skein of Knit Picks Bare so I took some Wiltons
cake dyes and dyed it up in shades of green.<br />
<br />
<br />
I wanted to be sure to get the most out of the yarn, since I
couldn't get any more, and I knew that TW would get more use out of a
shallow obtuse angled scarf shaped 'shawl' than a deep right triangle type
shawl, so I went with the Baktus construction and weighed my skein
frequently and saved just enough yarn to make some cute tassels for
the ends.<br />
<br />
<br />
TW was so happy when it was time to block it and I laid it out
that night. Then he got up extra early to check if it was dry yet the
next morning. I think it's pretty safe to say he loves it, and it
will be a perfect scarf come wintertime!<br />

<br />
<br />
Soon after TW was born my <a href="http://akittenknits.blogspot.com/2006/11/in-honor-of-sleet-we-got-this-afternoon.html">pi lap blanket</a> got soiled, but we were
new parents and we were not up to washing and blocking delicate
woolens. It got put aside, and a while ago while cleaning I found it
balled up on the floor, shoved in a back corner behind the dirty
laundry bins.<br />
<br />
<br />
I pulled it out and threw it in a wool wash bath without really
inspecting it.<br />
<br />
<br />
When I laid it out to block it this is what I found:<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/13367972333" title="chewed up blanket by Abigail L., on Flickr"><img alt="chewed up

<br />
<br />
so sad.<br />
<br />
<br />
Oh well, gueas that just means I need to knit a new one.Abigailhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01293357830026556068noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36655367.post-27551904540144031332014-02-28T10:32:00.000-05:002014-06-08T10:34:24.319-04:00More knitting for yarnAfter TW's Wallaby I didn't really have any big projects so
decided to pick up a few more knitting jobs just to have something to
do (and hey, more yarn!)
<br />
<br />
first up was a really nifty colorwork tam:<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/12175489763" title="pansy garden tam blocking 01-22-14 top by Abigail L., on

<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/pansy-garden-tam">Pansy
Garden Tam</a> (rav pattern link, web link <a href="http://mrsknitterdesigns.com/">here</a>)<br />
<br />
<br />
the pattern came in a kit with pre-wound balls of jaggerspun wool.
It was very clearly written, and while a few of the colors came a bit
close to running out, it turned out great. I love color work, and
this was such a pretty design!<br />
<br />

<br />
After the Tam there was a nice trip Through the Woods!<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/12622674713" title="through the woods finished by Abigail L., on Flickr"><img alt="through the

<br />
<br />
The <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/through-the-woods-2">Through
the Woods hood</a> (rav link) was great fun to knit. And I
think I want one for myself too!<br />
<br />
<br />
I was almost done when I ran out of yarn, so the great lady I was
knitting for sent more, with the request for a pair of matching
mitts:<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/12622669983" title="through the woods mitts 02-18-14 by Abigail L., on

<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/through-the-woods-fingerless-mitts">Thorough
the Woods Fingerless Mitts.</a> (rav link) by the same
designer.<br />
<br />
<br />
Both of these projects were a lot of fun, the cables were simple,
but very classic looking, and I just love how the hood turned out.<br />

three projects</a> I had earned enough yarn for a <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/wonderful-wallaby">Wallaby</a>!
(rav link, purchase online <a href="http://amzn.com/B002JPFB1M">here</a> or <a href="http://cottagecreationspatterns.com/patterns/sweaters/the-wonderful-wallaby/">here</a>)<br />
<br />
<br />
I had purchased the pattern even before TW was born, and I’m so
glad I did.<br />
<br />

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/13782797464" title="Nice and warm for a lunch picnic by Abigail L., on

<br />
<br />
The pattern is written in a very chatty manner, but after a few
read-throughs it was really easy and everything went together very
nicely!<br />
<br />
<br />
I knit with a slightly thicker yarn than called for (Manos Del
Uraguay Wool Clasica – which is Aran weight), and about a size and
half bigger than TW's current size, so it is nice and warm and should
fit him for a couple of seasons.<br />

<br />
<br />
He loves it, but says that it 'tickles' (itches) so he has to wear
a long sleeved shirt underneath.
<br />
<br />
<br />
This was my first 'big' sweater and I had a ton of fun with it and
it went by so quickly! I can't wait to knit more sweaters!<br />

So, I've wanted to knit a new swater for TW for a while, but
money is tight and we don't have the spare cash to buy any new yarn.
What is a knitter to do?<br />
<br />
Knit for it!<br />
<br />
There are a few "Will Work For Yarn" and bartering type
groups on Ravely and I've been putting my self out offering my
services in hopes of earning enough yarn for a sweater.
<br />
<br />
And I did! More on that later though. First, here is what I've
been making:<br />
<br />
<br />
Denver Cowl<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/10140439346/" title="denver cowl done 10-07-13 by alien_sunset, on

needles: US 8 (5mm)<br />

<br />
Lovely yarn and easy fun little pattern.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Herringbone Poncho<br />

poncho done 1" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3686/10946793305_cc3589bf3a.jpg" height="500" width="375" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
yarn: Blue Sky Alpaca Worsted<br />
needles: US 17 (12.75mm)<br />
<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/AlienSunset/herringbone-poncho">Rav
project page</a><br />
<br />
this one was hard,the big needles were really hard on my wrists.
And I've hard so many good things about the yarn, but it took 7
skeins, and 4 of them had knots! And it was spun in such a way that
there was very little spring to it.<br />
<br />

<br />
What to say about New York Sheep and wool 2013? Fun!<br />
TW had a grand time checking out all the animals, he kept us going
so much that I didn't get many pictures, but believe me, there was a
lot going on. I wore my <a href="http://akittenknits.blogspot.com/2013/01/arbres.html">Arachne's
Veil shawl</a>, but didn't get any pictures.<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I was able to take a break and go check out the Ravelry meet up
while TW and Bill went to look at the traveling zoo animals. And then
they wandered off to make volcanoes in the sand.<br />

<br />
I've got a few FOs for you today!<br />
<br />
Let's see...<br />
<br />
I finished the Gentleman’s Socks with Lozenge Pattern for Bill:<br />
<br />
he loves them, it just makes me so happy to make socks for him, he
really appreciates them, I need to make more socks for me, but I keep
picking out yarns for him, because it is so fun to see how happy they
make him.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/9731982348/" title="bills losenge sox done by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img alt="bills losenge

<br />
Pattern: Gentleman’s Sock with Lozenge pattern by Nancy bush
(found in Knitting Vintage Socks)<br />
yarn: Knitpicks Stroll in Wine<br />
needles: US 1 (2.25mm)<br />
I modified the pattern a bit to be able to knit them toe up, two
at once, and good thing, too, because I ran out of yarn! You can see
the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/AlienSunset/gentlemans-sock-with-lozenge-pattern">
ravelry page here</a><br />
<br />
<br />
***<br />
<br />
<br />
then I knit a little blue sweater for Bill's brother and Sister in
law, because they are having a little boy and we are all very
excited!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/9728755953/" title="pale blue sunnyside finished by alien_sunset, on

<br />
this was a great little pattern, I really loved the cable detail.
I continued the cables down under the arms, and mirrored them,
because I'm like that.<br />
<br />
Pattern: Sunnyside by Tanis Lavallee
<br />
yarn: Bernat Softee Baby Solids & Marls held double<br />
needles: US 5 (3.75mm)<br />
<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/AlienSunset/sunnyside">ravelry
page here</a><br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
after the sweater it started to get a bit chilly here, and I had
promised TW that I would make him a new hat since he grew out of his
<a href="http://akittenknits.blogspot.com/2011/01/whew.html">pixie</a><br />
<br />
so I knit him an owl:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/10426292985/" title="tommys blue owl hat 10-22-13 by alien_sunset, on

<br />
this was a fun little hat, but since my yarn wasn't to gauge, I
needed to make a lot of adjustments, I cast on for the adult size and
then added extra rows to the owl body and head.<br />

Hey everyone!<br />
<br />
<br />
I'm just stopping in to let you know that I've been published*!<br />
<br />
<br />
That's right! Come the new year, if you are looking for a new
calendar, pick up the <a href="http://amzn.com/1449432867">2014
Knitting Pattern a Day calendar</a>, and you will find my <a href="http://akittenknits.blogspot.com/2007/11/post-thanksgiving-fish.html">Felted
Fish Cat Toy</a> pattern on May 5th!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
* Ok, it's kinda cheesy since I wasn't paid for the pattern. I
entered it in their contest to win money, but didn't win, and all
runners up were put in the calendar. But still... published!<br />

<br />
we like to keep the windows open as much as possible, but on
breezier days that almost always means doors getting blown shut.<br />
<br />
We've had <a href="http://akittenknits.blogspot.com/2010/07/teething-giraffes-and-more.html">Marmalade</a> at our bedroom door for ages, but TW's door
has been kept open by random object for far too long, so I finally
decided to make Marmalade a companion.<br />
<br />
Isn't he adorable?<br />

So I've been super busy living life and
enjoying my time with TW, but I have a ton of stuff to share with
you!
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br />
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Still no progress on the shawl, I
really should get myself an audiobook and buckle down, but until
then, I’ve finally finished the big blanket!</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br />
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/9511013861/" title="craft dump 8-14-13 blanket by alien_sunset, on

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br />
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
For size reference, that's our queen
sized bed.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
(yes, I had to stand on a chair to take
that picture, it was scary.)</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
It's nice and soft and cozy and warm, and I finished it just in time for a summer heat wave, so it hasn't gotten much use yet, but I foresee lots of cuddles come winter time. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br />
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
And just because, here is TW modeling
it for you:</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br />
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/9154675978/" title="cutie new blanket 06-27-13 by alien_sunset, on

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Yarn: my hand dyed hand-spun</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Needles: size 10.5 (6.5mm) knitpicks options </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Pattern: a bastardized Shetland Shawl construction: I cast on three stitches and knit the middle panel, increasing every row until it was big enough, and decreasing back down. (a la Grannie's Favorite Washcloth). Then I picked up stitches all along the edge and knit in the round increasing at the corners until I ran out of blue yarn, then I did a sideways knit on edging in white, ending it back at the beginning with Kitchener stitch.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
It's meand to be big and warm, and not need any blocking if it needs to be washed. I can simply squeeze out the water and pat it out in a rough square shape and let it dry.<br />(My poor pi blanket got dirty soon after TW was born and it still hasn't been blocked since we don't have the room for it here.)</div>

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br />
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Bill's socks are coming along nicely, I
have one more pattern repeat and then I start the ribbing.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br />
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
And as the weather has finally started
to cool off a bit we can start turning off the AC and opening the
windows, which means pleasant breezes... and slamming doors. So I’ve
had to get back to the little mousy doorstop. I picked up a nice
heavy stone for his base today while out on a hike so I can stuff him
and finish up the rest of his head. Then its just a quick nose and a
couple of ears!</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
In other crafty news, my poor
juggling balls have been sitting on my bedroom bookshelf for ages,
ever since the old bag fell apart in the wash, so I decided (with the
inspiration from my new friends on the FB Project Project group (hi
guys!)) that it was time to make them a new bag.

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
It was super simple, just the leg off

Before I made the juggling bag I
decided to try my idea out on a pair of jeans first. Then I got the
nifty idea to make it a set, so I whipped up a few denim bean bags to
go with it. (the aren't filled yet, since I need to pick up some of
those little plastic pellets first, but I have a craft store trip
planned for the near future for some other crafty projects, so I'll
pick some up then.)</div>

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
I have a friend who juggles also, and since I certainly don't need any more balls, I may give them to him. </div>

Bill's work schedule landing on a few Saturdays, I haven't had as
much knitting time as I would like. But I have been making progress,
because i can still knit simple things during date nights (we cuddle
up after TW's bed time and watch a few episodes of British TV)
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
One problem...I ran out of white yarn.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
I have a tiny ball left over from when
I knit the center and I think I may have a hank from when I was doing
test spinning, but I don't think that will be enough. I also have a
bit of blue left, so I could just finish the last corner with that,
but then it would probably drive me nuts. We'll see. It's in time
out right now as I ponder my options.</div>

I want to do <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/chouette">Chouette</a>
but I wanted to be sure I understood how the cables work, and to
check for any mods I would have to make (a lot of people mentioned
needing to add rows to the body and head of the owl) so I knit a mini
prototype:</div>

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
knit with one strand of random acrylic
on US 7s (4.5mm) I did the smallest size and this would probably fit
a newborn, super cute. I added two rows to the body, but I think it
probably could use four, and maybe a few extra in the head too. (<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/AlienSunset/chouette">ravely

Knitting moves slowly along.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
There wasn't any Monday night knitting
for a few weeks because of the holidays, and then because if Bill's
work schedule getting in the way, I couldn't go the last few weeks,
and the holidays also got in the way of Saturday knitting a bit, but
I have been knitting a little: I'm about halfway through the trees on
my sheep shawl:</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/8392285569/" title="purple sheep progress trees by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img alt="purple sheep progress trees" height="375" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8365/8392285569_decb25ecbc.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
and I'm on the fourth and final ball of
blue for my hand spun blanket (no picture because it doesn't look much
different.) once I finish that I'll cast on a few stitches and do a
sideways knit border with the last two balls of white. I can't wait
until I'm there, it will be fun to see exactly how big this blanket
is.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
I'm feeling a little miffed about
knitting out though. Because the Monday knitting is so much earlier
than when it was at Flavors a lot of people can't reliably make it,
and the people at More Bread and Jam are (understandable, and
rightfully) thinking of not staying open any longer for it. And
Saturday knitting isn't really all that fun for me because all the
ladies that go there already know each other from other things,
which means I'm usually out of the loop on their conversations, when
anybody shows up, that is, one day I was the only one there and while
it was nice to have tome to just sit and knit, it was also kind of
lonely. And then the last time I went the two other ladies who
showed up sat off at another table and talk to each other and
essentially ignored me the whole time. So I'm not even sure if I
want to continue to go to that either.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Despite all the roadblocks to finding
actual knitting time, I have been able to get a new pattern posted!
It's and oldie but a goodie: I knit it a long time ago, but never
really got around to formatting everything up properly until
recently. It's been test knit a few times, and some errors were
found, and I just the other day fixed it all up and you can now
download the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/arachnes-veil">Arachen's
Veil Shawl pattern</a>!</div>

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">

Wow, it has been a crazy week here at
the Platypus Gardens.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Bill got an awesome new job a few
months ago, but because he is so new, there is no way he would be
able to get any significant time off at Christmas time. BUT he
managed to get four days off in a row in the beginning of December by
working three 11 hour days straight.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
So this past week while he was at work
I spent my days toddler wrangling and also trying to prepare for a
trip up north. I cooked, cleaned, took TW for walks and packed what
I could. All the while slipping in a few moments of knitting here and
there.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Just before we left I finished the
simple cabled socks I had been working on:</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
I thought it was a very auspicious
start to our trip to be wearing a brand new pair of hand knit socks.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
While I knew we would be busy visiting
family I also knew that it was a 3 1/2 hr drive up and another 3 1/2
hr drive home, so I brought my knitting along. I had hoped to work
on the sheep shawl, but unfortunately reading the chart made me
carsick, so I spent the whole trip working on my hand-spun blanket
instead. I finished the second ball of blue yarn, and got about
halfway though the third by the time we got home. That's some pretty
good progress!</div>

<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Since it's been so busy this past week
that’s all the progress I have to show you for now. But I have
awesome news on the knitting group front:</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
you may remember that when we lived
back up north I attended a knitting group on Monday nights at a local
coffee house. When we moved I was sad to be leaving them, but soon
found a new (also on Monday!) group here in Troy. They met at
Flavor's cafe and I made a ton of friends and had a great time
knitting and socializing. Sadly this past spring Flavor's was
targeted by an arsonist and burnt down. Reconstruction faced many
delays and I was once again left knit-groupless (although many of us
still kept in contact via facbook, ravelry and other social networks)
then a month or so ago, thanks to Ravelry, I discovered another
group of knitters that meets at a (semi)local cafe on Saturday
afternoons. Luckily, Bills new work schedule allowed me to stop in a
few times, and I really enjoyed myself! It turns out that the cafe's
owner is also knitter, and also very good at promotion and
networking, and one thing lead to another and now the old Monday
group from Flavors will be meeting there as well! So now I have TWO
groups a week I can choose from, one on Monday evenings, and one on
Saturday afternoons! And Bill's new schedule at work is such that if
I want I can attend both while he hangs out with TW! Yay!</div>

<br />
does this <a href="http://akittenknits.blogspot.com/2007/01/walkin-on-sunshine.html">look familiar?</a><br />
<br />
yep! I'm finally knitting myself my own Sheep Shawl!<br />
A very nice woman at the Saturday knitting group I just started attending is moving, and said she was never going to use it, so she gave me this cone of JaggerSpun Zephyr! (as well as another huge cone of lovely grey lambswool lace weight.)<br />
<br />
when I saw the JaggerSpun I just knew it was meant to be!<br />
<br />
I'm so excited to be finally knitting my own sheep shawl. Although I think I may take quite a bit longer to finish the shawl than last time.<br />
<br />
Besides starting my shawl I have a small FO to share today as well:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/8226351137/" title="grayson's mitts done by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img alt="grayson's mitts done" height="375" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8344/8226351137_796e8a5468.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
I got two skeins of yarn to make the pixie hat for my cousin's son, and only needed one, so I whipped up a pair of thumb-less mitts to go with it.<br />
<br />
Yarn – same as he hat: Vickie Howell Sheep(ish) in turquoise <br />
on US size 5 (3.75mm) needles<br />
I used the basic numbers from my <a href="http://akittenknits.blogspot.com/2007/11/knit-night-review-and-two-colour-baby.html">two color baby mittens</a> but with a much longer cuff.<br />
<br />
The cord has an amusing story: I didn't like the look of a crochet chain in this yarn, and I-cord is rather tedious, so I went to the internet for ideas. The immediate answer was lucet! But I don't have one, and though they can be inexpensive I didn't want to buy one just to make one cord, and totally didn't want to wait for it to arrive in the mail. So I put on my MacGyver hat and found an old plastic fork in the back of a drawer, broke off the middle tines, sanded it down a bit with a nail file and Whammo! Instant free lucet!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/8225565918/" title="Plastic fork lucet by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img alt="Plastic fork lucet" height="375" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8065/8225565918_c2ff5da9a4.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />

I couldn't refuse!<br />
<br />

<br />
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/blog/en/2009/how-tuesday-make-a-stella-pixie-hat/">Stella Pixie hat</a><br />
in Vickie Howell Sheep(ish) in turquoise<br />
on US 6 (4mm) circular needles.<br />
<br />
I used the same mods as last time.<br />
(<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/AlienSunset/stella-pixie-hat-2">project's Ravelry page</a>)<br />
<br />
I can't wait to get the pictures of it on him! I'll be giving it to her at Christmas, along with a pair of thumbless mittens in the same yarn. (more on them in a later post)<br />
<br />
***<br />
<br />
When my mom was visiting a while ago she brought me yarn! Lion Brand Amazing. It's a wool/acrylic Noro wannabe. It was quite soft and the colors seemed pretty nice too. Around the same time I discovered that all my knit hats either didn't go down over my ears well, or had lace/yarn overs that let the wind in. I decided to remedy that.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/8193667742/" title="my amazing brioche hat 1 by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img alt="my amazing brioche hat 1" height="500" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8490/8193667742_a162445042.jpg" width="375" /></a>
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/8193667332/" title="my amazing brioche hat 2 by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img alt="my amazing brioche hat 2" height="375" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8058/8193667332_7ba177bfc6.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
It's in <a href="http://megan.kiwi.gen.nz/BiColourHat/">Bicolor Brioche</a><br />
On US 6 (4mm) needles
In Lion Brand Amazing in Strawberry Fields and Pink Sands.<br />
(<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/AlienSunset/circular-bicolour-prime-rib-brioche-hat-3">project's Ravelry page</a>)<br />
<br />
This is the third time I've knit this particular pattern, and my sixth time knitting Brioche in the round, and I gotta say I still love it!<br />
<br />
The hat is nice and squishy and soft, and VERY warm. Perfect for the frequent walks TW and I take while Bill is at work.<br />
<br />
***<br />
<br />
It hasn't been just all hats around here though. I've also started a new pair of socks:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/8183174860/" title="recent knitting 11-13-12 socks by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img alt="recent knitting 11-13-12 socks" height="500" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8342/8183174860_299c9d5d92.jpg" width="375" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/socks-on-a-plane">socks on a plane</a> (link is to the Ravelry pattern page)<br />
<br />
(my Bayerische socks are on hold until I stop being annoyed at them for being so fiddly in a dark colored yarn)<br />
<br />
***<br />
<br />
I also washed, carded, spun, and plied up a bunch of yarn from the batch that had originally <a href="http://akittenknits.blogspot.com/search/label/fleece%20to%20sweater%20adventure">been destined for a sweater.</a> The dyeing process had been interrupted by our move, and I decided that the sweater was never going to happen. So I cast on in the white yarn I already had spun up, and spun up a batch of blue and white mixed.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/7615753340/" title="handspun blanket blue start by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img alt="handspun blanket blue start" height="375" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8153/7615753340_d8891a2e9a.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
There are four skeins of white, two in the center and two for an edging, and then four skeins of blue all for the border.<br />
<br />
It should be a nice large, squishy, warm blanket when it's done.
It is a bit further along than in the picture now (I'm into the second skein of blue), but its my mindless big lap knitting, and I don't work on it much, but that's ok, since there is no deadline.<br />
<br />
***<br />
<br />
And finally before I end this post, here is an unremarkable picture of the start of an amigurumi mouse doorstop.<br />
<br />
Over the summer and early fall when the temperatures were so nice we had the windows open a lot, unfortunately the wind kept catching the door to TW's room and slamming it on us. Eventually I got fed up and decided that his door needed a doorstop too. But that it had to match <a href="http://akittenknits.blogspot.com/2010/07/teething-giraffes-and-more.html">Marmalade</a> who guards our bedroom door.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/8183135675/" title="recent knitting 11-13-12 mouse by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img alt="recent knitting 11-13-12 mouse" height="500" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8490/8183135675_7b14918b9f.jpg" width="375" /></a><br />
<br />
I’m taking my time on him, since he doesn't need to be ready until spring when we open the windows again.Abigailhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01293357830026556068noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36655367.post-30007074424306433622012-11-22T09:25:00.000-05:002012-11-22T10:11:00.816-05:00Catch up part one<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
I'll be playing catch up in the next
few posts, I'll try to keep in roughly chronological order, but no
promises.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
When last we saw knitting content from
our intrepid hero there had been owlie mittens and toddler socks.
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Since then I've made some crochet
acorns:</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/5789926261/" title="crochet acorns 06-02-11 by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img alt="crochet acorns

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
caps were found while out on one of our
many hikes.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
yarn is random sock scraps, tiny E hook</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
pattern from <a href="http://resurrectionfern.typepad.com/resurrection_fern/2008/10/crochet-acorns-and-felted-pumpkin-bowls-a-tutorial.html">here</a></div>
but modified to fit my much larger caps.
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
(<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/AlienSunset/crochet-acorns">project's
Ravelry page</a>)</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
after the acorns I got ambitious and
cast on for Haruni using some hand spun I had made long before our
move. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/5756510206/" title="haruni 05-24-11 by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img alt="haruni

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
the cat was not terribly helpful.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
While I was knitting Haruni it got cold
and TW grew out of his previous mittens, so I made him a new pair</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
pattern: <a href="http://scrubberbum.typepad.com/patterns/2005/08/dulaan_easyon_m.html">Dulaan Easy-On Mittens</a></div>

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
while the mittens were made LAST year,
they didn't get worn until this year, this was the only picture I
got before there were treated to the Toddler Special (mud puddles,
leaves and carrying lots of sticks and pine cones) they are looking
quite disheveled now.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Progress was made on Haruni:</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
I started and finished a new pair of
socks for Bill:</div>

Wow, over a year since my last post. Things have been a bit crazy around here. Well, since it has been almost a month since NY Sheep and Wool I guess I'll start there...</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
The drive down was gorgeous as usual,
and uneventful after I once again over prepared. TW was an
awesome passenger and sang along with the songs and looked at the
sights. We didn't have the spare cash to buy anything fiber-y but we
still had a great time wandering through the animal barns and
checking out all the sheep, llamas, alpacas and goats.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/8106471598/" title="ny sheep and wool 2012 7 by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img alt="ny sheep and

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/8106472224/" title="ny sheep and wool 2012 6 by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img alt="ny sheep and

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
But the real fun began when we got to
the petting zoo. For the last several months TW has been
obsessed with Lemurs and has seen tons of videos with Bill
on You Tube, so we were all a bit excited to see them. But first
there was a full grown turtle and it's size matched bunny friend:</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">

And then the petting goats:</div>

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">

<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
All in all we had a great day, and I'm
so glad that we live so near by and can spend the day having so much
fun with all the animals. TW seemed interested by the few
spinners we passed along the way, and I think as he grows he will
become more and more interested in the fiber side of things as well,
which makes me all sorts of giddy.</div>

<br />
We just got back from the <a href="http://www.sheepandwool.com/">NY Sheep and Wool Festival.</a> I didn't buy any yarn this year, but The Llama got to see a ton of his namesakes, and pet tons of sheep and goats.<br />
<br />
It was a beautiful ride down (and back) but The Llama missed most of it because he fell asleep both ways.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/6251353666/" title="rhinebeck 10-16-11 1 by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6176/6251353666_5d2b3ec35b.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="rhinebeck 10-16-11 1"></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/6251354446/" title="rhinebeck 10-16-11 2 by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6158/6251354446_391d6cd235.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="rhinebeck 10-16-11 2"></a><br />
<br />
<br />
We arrived just in time for the llama parade. We couldn’t really get close enough to pet any of them, but The Llama enjoyed pointing at them, and there was much squealing and giggling.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/6250828891/" title="rhinebeck 10-16-11 3 by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6218/6250828891_4cb7ef3ab6.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="rhinebeck 10-16-11 3"></a><br />
<br />
After a break for a snack and some time to run around we headed over to the sheep barn. The Llama LOVED petting the sheep, and kept trying to rub his face against them (we have a cat and he has learned from her how to show affection) he was fascinated when they Baa-ed and kept baa-ing back.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/6251356100/" title="rhinebeck 10-16-11 4 by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6211/6251356100_c9bf53f984.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="rhinebeck 10-16-11 4"></a><br />

<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/6250833551/" title="rhinebeck 10-16-11 9 by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6171/6250833551_23384ea0d7.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="rhinebeck 10-16-11 9"></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/6251360612/" title="rhinebeck 10-16-11 10 by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6238/6251360612_322cd18de3.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="rhinebeck 10-16-11 10"></a><br />
<br />
Then it was over to the goats. We started to watch an angora goat getting its first shearing, but it was a bit distressed and The Llama started to get upset so we moved on. The Llama enjoyed petting the goats too, but was startled when a few decided to ram at their neighbors. One nice lady let him feed her goats, which was really fun. After that he kept trying to give all the animals bits of hay.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/6251361392/" title="rhinebeck 10-16-11 11 by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6232/6251361392_1208b8ea96.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="rhinebeck 10-16-11 11"></a><br />

<br />

<br />
On our way out of the barn we spotted some mini sheep (Shetlands) and we had to stop and pet them too!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/6250837727/" title="rhinebeck 10-16-11 14 by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6234/6250837727_73b908edb1.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="rhinebeck 10-16-11 14"></a><br />
<br />
After that we wandered around some more, went through the Llama barn (the Llamas weren't very sociable, so no pictures), tasted and bought some cheese, and sat down to eat another snack and have another run around, then it was time to head home. Now we are relaxing after a very fun filled day!Abigailhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01293357830026556068noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36655367.post-38664864649454974932011-08-14T20:42:00.000-04:002011-08-14T20:42:16.711-04:00ZentangleI think I have a new obsession.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/6032334668/" title="star zentangle by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img alt="star zentangle" height="435" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6140/6032334668_5916a41fcd.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://zentangle.com/index.php">Zentangle</a> its a type of doodling using a step by step process to create complicated looking 'tangles' combined together to create a 'zentangle' only using a simple pen, and no erasing. The step by step and black and white nature is supposed to be very meditative and calming, hence the 'zen'. I had an amazon gift card to spend, so I got <a href="http://amzn.com/1574216716">Sandy Bartholomew's Totally Tangled</a>, and I LOVE IT! There are so many tangles and ideas, I really want to get her other books now too.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/6031774875/" title="heart zentangle by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img alt="heart zentangle" height="463" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6185/6031774875_e8174c830d.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
I have gone through pages and pages in my sketchbook already and its only been about a week and a half since I discovered it. I find them so fun, and yes, meditative. I know it sounds kinda woo, but making these drawings really is so meditative and relaxing. and the result is always so nifty. If I'm having a hard or stressful day with TW, I find if I take a few minutes (while he is eating lunch or dinner) to draw, that I feel not necessarily refreshed, but more mellow, and better able to cope whatever frustrations come my way.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/6042005312/" title="zentangle bookmark 003 by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img alt="zentangle bookmark 003" height="135" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6132/6042005312_5187393044.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
I've cut up a sheet of watercolor paper and am working on a bunch of bookmarks now. I think that I will be adding a tangled bookmark to the holiday gifts this year, so much of our family are readers that I know they will be appreciated. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/48755371@N00/6037085078/" title="zentangle bookmark 002 by alien_sunset, on Flickr"><img alt="zentangle bookmark 002" height="138" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6072/6037085078_2cf8523175.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
I only just received Sandy's book on Thursday, most of my tangling so far has been done using resources from the internet, so it is totally doable even without all the official accoutrement! Heck you don't even need any of the fancy little squares or expensive pens if you can't get them, a lot of my tangles have been on regular printer paper using a sharpie ultra fine! (Although I do admit that the Sakura pens make a much finer line, with no bleeding like you can get with the sharpie pens.)<br />
<br />

<br />
For more info in zentangles check out the <a href="http://zentangle.blogspot.com/">zentangle blog</a> or the<a href="http://tanglepatterns.com/">zentangle patterns website</a> and my favorite zentangle teacher/blogger/author Sandy Bartholomew at her <a href="http://beezinthebelfry.blogspot.com/">blog</a> (seriously, buy her books if you are interested in Zentangle, she is really awesome)<br />
